Granite and quartz are the two most popular countertop choices in South African kitchens — and the question we hear most often. Both are excellent; they simply suit different priorities. Here is how they compare.

Granite — natural stone, one of a kind

Granite is quarried natural stone, so every slab is unique. It handles heat exceptionally well, resists scratches, and gives your kitchen a genuine, characterful look. It is porous, so it needs sealing every year or two to stay stain-resistant — a five-minute job.

Quartz — engineered and low-maintenance

Quartz is engineered from crushed stone and resin, giving a consistent colour and pattern with no sealing required. It is non-porous, so it shrugs off wine, oil and juice, which makes it a favourite for busy family kitchens. It is slightly less heat-tolerant than granite, so use a trivet under hot pots.

Cost in South Africa

Entry-level granite and quartz sit in a similar price band; premium quartz colours and exotic granite slabs cost more. Because we template, fabricate and fit in-house, you pay for the stone and the workmanship — not a showroom markup. We put every number in writing before you commit.
